Shorewood is located at 43°05′31″N 87°53′11″W / 43.092061°N 87.886333°W / 43.092061; -87.886333 (43.092061, -87.886333). It is bordered by Milwaukee to the south and west, Whitefish Bay, WI to the north, and Lake Michigan to the east. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 13,763 people, 6,539 households, and 3,328 families residing in the village. The population density was 8,599.5 people per square mile (3,321.2/km). There were 6,696 housing units at an average density of 4,183.9/sq mi (1,615.8/km).
