Socialist Republic is a nominal republic governed on the principles of socialism usually by a communist or a socialist party. They are usually focused on a centrally planned economy, but sometimes they mix their economy with elements of a free market In the west, such countries are sometimes called socialist or communist state to stress the fact that they are usually ruled by a single party.
