In 2004, the citizens of DeSoto County voted to pass a school bond proposal worth $115 million to help expand or replace some of the county's aging schools. Southaven High School was one of two high schools that was replaced with a new facility (the other being Horn Lake High.) Ground was broken during the summer of 2005 on a plot of land directly east of the original high school. The facility was completed fall of 2006. It was not opened until January 2007 because school had started when it was finished. The old high school building now houses Southaven Middle School, serving 6th through 8th grades.
