The movie begins roughly two years after the events of Species. It begins with a trio of American astronauts (Anne Sampas, Dennis Gamble & Patrick Ross) on a mission to Mars. Patrick is the only astronaut that lands on the surface and is shown collecting soil samples. When he plants the American flag, he is instantly hailed a hero. In a cross-cut, Dr. Herman Cromwell (Peter Boyle) is seen in an insane asylum, shouting "I told them not to go!"
