Splitting Heirs is a 1993 British film starring Eric Idle, Rick Moranis, Barbara Hershey, Catherine Zeta-Jones, John Cleese and Sadie Frost. The film was directed by Robert Young, and features music by Michael Kamen. It was entered into the 1993 Cannes Film Festival. The movie tells the story of a presumably cursed aristocratic family in England. Throughout history, bad things have befallen the heirs. The most recent heir was left in a restaurant as an infant in the 1960s and never seen again. In the 1990s, Tommy Patel (Eric Idle) is an Englishman raised by an Indian-English family. He befriends American Henry Bullock (Rick Moranis). Henry has found documents which he believes reveal him to be the lost heir. However, Tommy finds different documents which he believes reveal him to be the heir. So, Tommy tries to find ways to reclaim his title, usually running into snags. He enlists the help of lawyer Raoul P. Shadgrind (John Cleese), but this proves to have unintended consequences.... less
