In February 2006, the school was temporarily closed due to mercury spillage and its exposure to 89 students and 17 teachers, totaling to 106 victims, resulting a nationwide restriction of mercury usage in schools. In May 2006, different environmental agencies conducted a clean-up of the spillage. Thus, it was announced that the school is "mercury-free" and the school reopened on June 2006.
