He has had a career as a news reader and presenter on Australian radio (Macquarie Radio Network) and television (Seven Network, Australian Broadcasting Corporation), along with a stint at CNN International in Hong Kong and Beijing, responsible for the news network's coverage of China. In 1994, as host of the Seven Network current affairs program Real Life he won the Logie Award for Most Popular Current Affairs Program.
His role as host of Real Life (a tabloid style current affairs program) was the main inspiration for the character of Mike Moore on the satire Frontline. His credibility as a journalist has suffered ever since.
