Stephen Roark Gyllenhaal ( /ˈdʒɪlənhɔːl/; born October 4, 1949) is an American film director and poet. Gyllenhaal was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Virginia Lowrie (née Childs) and Hugh Anders Gyllenhaal.
