In 1992, professional skateboarders Jason Lee, (who was riding for Blind) and Chris Pastras (who was riding for World Industries) left their sponsors to start Stereo, headquartered in San Francisco under Deluxe Distribution.
In 1996, Lee left professional skateboarding to pursue his acting career. Pastras took over Stereo on his own until 2000 when he retired the brand and went on to pursue other interests outside of the skateboard industry.
In 2003, Lee and Pastras partnered up again to restart the brand, this time under Giant Distribution, while maintaining their careers and outside interests.
In 2006, Stereo departed from Giant Distribution, to better focus on their target market.
On January 31, 2007, Stereo launched the High Fidelity Wheels line.
In 2007, Stereo celebrated their 15 year anniversary (despite being defunct between 2000 to 2003).
