Steve Carlson is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Southern California. A native of California, Carlson grew up listening to blues, folk, soul, R&B;, and rock. At age 10, he started playing guitar and writing songs. He performed in bands throughout high school playing guitar, singing, and occasionally picking up a bass. During his two-year residence on the island of Maui, he began playing acoustic slide guitar and mandolin, which would eventually become a major influence on his songwriting. After steadily gigging in Hawaii, he moved to Los Angeles to hone his craft.
