In the 1970s Vann had a backing group, Bones. In the late 1970s Vann met Chris Thompson when performing backing vocals for a Manfred Mann's Earth Band album. Thompson approached Vann to form a band, known as Night after Bones split. Night then later split in 1983 after two albums.
