Sunnydale High is a fictional high school in Joss Whedon's TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and associated books and comics. Located in fictionalSunnydale, California, it serves as a main setting for much of early Buffy. Buffy Summers joins Sunnydale High after being expelled from Hemery High after the events of the film. She meets fellow Scooby Gang members Willow and Xander here, while her new Watcher, Rupert Giles, is the schools librarian. It was headed by Principal Bob Flutie early in the first season. After he was eaten by possessed students in "The Pack", Principal Snyder took over on the recommendation of Mayor Richard Wilkins. The Master rose in the season finale after the Sunnydale High School library showed itself to be on top of the Hellmouth, a subterranean, mystical portal into Hell.
