It was first translated into English by FUNimation, with the association with Ocean Group, and first aired on television as an edited three-part episode, during the time the Ocean Group dub of the series was airing. The Ocean Group later re-dubbed the movie and released it uncut on VHS and DVD on March 17, 1998, with dialogue and background music closer to the Japanese version, as well as being unedited. On November 14, 2006, the movie was re-released on DVD with a dub from the FUNimation voice cast as part of a movie box set titled "First Strike", also containing Dragon Ball Z feature movies 1 and 2.
