During her 15 year stint on Ramsay Street she has been divorced, remarried and widowed, she has been in a plane crash, become a stepmother to three children, a grandmother, suspended from work numerous times, had retrograde amnesia, been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, mourned the loss of her stepson, and had frequent splits from her first husband Karl (Alan Fletcher).
She first appeared in 1994 as wife of Karl Kennedy, and has remained a prominent character in the show ever since. In recent years, she has become a leading character and is the matriarch of the series. During 2007, Susan surpassed Helen Daniels (Anne Haddy) as the longest-running female character in its history.
