She became a journalist at the age of 18, working as a trainee reporter at the Solihull Times. Virdee passed her journalism exams and worked for Central News however she left the news programme and worked for the Sunday Mercury and the Birmingham Mail (then the Birmingham Evening Mail). She then moved to BBC WM then back to Central News after only 16 months of working for the radio station. She worked as a producer, presenter and reporter on Central News.
She married a freelance photographer called Andrew, they both live together in the small parish of Feckenham near Redditch in Worcestershire.
