Teach First is an independent educational charity United Kingdom, Reg. No. 1098294, established in 2002. It recruits exceptional graduates and places them in challenging teaching positions across London, Yorkshire, the East & West Midlands and the North West for the course of a two-year Leadership Development Programme. For a school to qualify to employ teachers training through Teach First, at least 30% of its pupils must claim free school meals and/or the school must have less than 25% of pupils achieving A-C at GCSE (including English and Maths). The first school placements took place in September 2003, with just over 180 graduates taking part. The 2009 cohort comprises 485 participants.
