Bickers joined Colenso Parade in 1985, leaving a year later to join The House of Love as lead guitarist. Despite critical acclaim, Bickers had difficulty adjusting to fame. This was exacerbated when the band signed to major label Fontana, to record their second album, and he left the band. Following his departure, Bickers formed Levitation with drummer David Francolini, for whom he was the main songwriter and lead singer.
When Levitation split in 1993, Bickers formed a new band, Cradle, releasing one studio album, Baba Yaga (1996) before vocalist Caroline Tree left and the band split. After working in production, Bickers resurfaced with a new band called Monkey 7 in 2000.
