Both films were screened together at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, as one four hour motion picture entitled Che.
While researching for both films, Soderbergh made a documentary with interviews with many who fought alongside Che in Cuba and Bolivia. Originally, there was one screenplay but the director realized that it needed to be broken up into two films.
