The Cord Weekly is Wilfrid Laurier University’s official student newspaper, serving the community of WLU’s Waterloo campus. It was founded in 1926 as The College Cord and entered its 82nd year of existence in 2007-08.
The Cord is an editorially independent weekly publication, governed by the Wilfrid Laurier University Student Publications’ Board of Directors. We strive to provide the Laurier campus and community with an independent news source, seeking to challenge and engage that community through fair and balanced journalism.
From September to April, we release issues every Wednesday, save for exam periods, and we also put out three issues each summer. The Cord’s average circulation is 7,000 print copies, with a readership in excess of 10,000.
The Cord has been a proud member of the Canadian University Press (CUP) – a national, non-profit co-operative, owned and operated by more than 70 student newspapers from coast to coast – since 2004.
