The Magic Cottage is a 1986 best-selling horror novel by London born English author and writer James Herbert, first edition hardback published by Hodder & Stoughton.
A 20 something couple (Mike the musician and Margret the children's book illustrator) decide to give up on the rat race and buy a dilapidated cottage out in the Hampshire countryside that (unknown to them) has mystical powers. Before long they encounter a strange but seemingly friendly cult that live nearby in a mansion who, it becomes apparent, are very interested in the cottage.
The house is initially very friendly and warm, and the occupants could not be happier. But with the good magic comes a bad magic soon after and things start to happen that could endanger their lives.
