In this episode, the Democratic National Convention has come to a close, and it seems as though Tanner's campaign is also coming to a close. However, T.J. re-thinks things after Jack's father gives Jack and her a passionate speech about how he could run as an Independent candidate.
Meanwhile and without Jack's knowledge, T.J. begins to conduct extensive research to determine whether or not Jack would have a good chance at running as an Independent.
Later on, Jack is in bed with Joanna talking politics. Joanna had recently returned from a meeting with Michael Dukakis's wife, Kitty; and Kitty had asked whether Jack would be supporting her husband as a candidate or not. In bed that day, Joanna asks Jack if his campaign will continue; the episode (and the series) ends as he stares into the camera without responding to her.
