The townspeople worship Cthulhu and Dagon, a Philistine deity incorporated into the Cthulhu Mythos.
Robert M. Price cites two works as literary sources for "The Shadow Over Innsmouth": Robert W. Chambers' "The Harbor-Master" and Irvin S. Cobb's "Fishhead".
