Theo Nathaniel Epstein (born December 29, 1973 in New York City) is the Executive Vice President/General Manager of the Boston Red Sox. On November 25, 2002, the Red Sox made him the youngest GM in the history of Major League Baseball by hiring him at the age of 28. In 2004, he was general manager of the club that won the first World Series championship by the Red Sox in 86 years and was in the position when the team won a second in the 2007 season. In each instance, however, players obtained by other general managers played important roles in winning the World Series for Boston. Epstein resigned in October 2005, but was rehired as GM and Executive Vice President on January 24, 2006.
