In the United States, third grade (called grade 3 in some regions) is a year of primary education. It is the third school after kindergarten. Students are usually 8 - 9 years old, depending on when their birthday occurs.
In Ireland, the equivalent is First Class (for 6–7 year olds) which is year 3 of Primary School.
