Tom Hooper

Thomas George "Tom" Hooper (born 1972) is an English film and television director. Hooper began making films at the age of 13. Painted Faces, the short film which he wrote, directed and produced aged 18, premiered at the London Film Festival, was released theatrically and shown on Channel 4. At Oxford he directed theatre, and his first TV commercials. He then directed episodes of the BBC One soap opera EastEnders and the ITV comedy drama Cold Feet before helming the revival of ITV's Prime Suspect serial, starring Helen Mirren. He directed Mirren again in the Company Pictures/HBO Films historical drama Elizabeth I. He made his feature debut directing Red Dust (2004), a film about a South African truth and reconciliation commission that starred Hilary Swank and Chiwetel Ejiofor. He then directed the HBO miniseries John Adams (2009) and the BBC film The Damned United (2009).
