Snyder was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His parents, Frank and Marie, gave him a Roman Catholic upbringing; he attended St. Agnes Elementary School, and then graduated from Jesuit-run Marquette University High School. He also attended Marquette University, after which he had originally planned to study medicine and become a doctor.
