Moon came up with the idea of the Holiday Camp and said he would write it. Townshend wrote it instead, but he said it was exactly how Keith would have. Keith was given credit for writing it because he had the idea. Though The Who attempted to record the song in the studio with full band instrumentation (an instrumental take exists on the Deluxe Edition SACD), the version eventually released was Pete Townshend's own home-recorded multi-track demo. It is something of a novelty track, featuring none of the usual Who instrumentation, but simply Hammond organ and banjo (both played by Townshend) and a double-tracked vocal. The song is sung by Uncle Ernie as he welcomes 'converts' to Tommy's spiritual retreat.
