The Business Insurance segment provides property and casualty products, including property, general liability, commercial multi-peril, commercial auto, and workers' compensation insurance. This segment distributes its products through approximately 7,600 independent agencies and brokers in the United States. The Financial, Professional, and International Insurance segment offers surety and financial liability coverage, which require primarily a credit-based underwriting process, as well as property and casualty products that are marketed on an international basis. This segment distributes its products in the United States through approximately 6,400 of the same independent agencies and brokers that distribute the Business Insurance segment’s products, as well as in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland. The Personal Insurance segment provides coverage in personal automobile and homeowners insurance for individuals. This segment distributes its products primarily through approximately 8,400 independent agents, sponsoring organizations, and joint marketing arrangements with other insurers in the United States.
