Travis County is located in the U.S. state of Texas. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. In the 2007, the population was 974,365 and the county has gained almost 400,000 residents since 1990. Its county seat is Austin, the capital of Texas. The county is named in honor of William Barret Travis, the commander of the Republic of Texas forces at the Battle of the Alamo.
