"Trey Kenyon", the illegitimate son of Vanessa Bennett and Richard Fields and the half-brother of David Hayward, arrives in Pine Valley as James Kenyon III (calling himself Trey Kenyon) at the door of Greenlee Smythe's penthouse, hoping to get a look at an apartment she has for rent. He sets fire to Erica Kane's house while Erica and her daughter, Bianca, are inside. He later sets up Erica's estranged daughter, Kendall Hart, to take the fall, even going as far as representing her in the criminal trial. It is soon revealed that Trey is the true arsonist and he goes to prison for the crime.
The real Trey Kenyon died as a teenager in a boating mishap. Ben Shepherd was friends with the teen and stole his identity years later.
