martial arts training to traditionally underserved communities. Founded in the wake of the 1998
murder of
Matthew Shepard, Triangle Taekwon Do Club initially provided
taekwondo instruction to people in the
LGBTQ community in the
Castro neighborhood of San Francisco. Later, its mission was broadened to include reaching
seniors, people with
disabilities,
people with limited economic resources, and at-risk
children. TMAA currently offers traditional curricula in taekwondo,
hapkido, and
jiujitsu, as well as regularly-scheduled
self-defense seminars.
