In the early 1930s, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth saw the need for an area hospital in Tyler, Texas. The hospital was built cooperatively between the Sisters, the City of Tyler, and some local medical professionals. The hospital was named in honor of Frances Siedliska, the founder of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
Mother Frances Hospital opened its doors on March 18, 1937, one day before its scheduled opening and elaborate dedication on March 19th, due to an explosion in nearby New London.
Several years later, in 1948, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth completed the purchase of the hospital from the City of Tyler and in October 1965, Mother Frances Week is celebrated in Tyler, dedicating a new 140,000-square-foot (13,000 m) wing. This $4.5...
