After Ryan Weaver (Liotta) is arrested for a murder that he says he did not commit, he must be transported back to Los Angeles escorted by 4 air marshals on a commercial Boeing 747. Because it is Christmas Eve, the plane is nearly empty, only 8 people are on board. During the flight, Stubbs (Gleeson), a prisoner being escorted, breaks free and manages to begin a shoot out with the marshals. Amidst the chaos, both the pilot and the co-pilot are killed. Weaver also manages to break free and attempts to save the last remaining marshal but fails when both Stubbs and the marshal are shot dead.
