Ty Burrell (born August 22, 1967) is an American film and television actor. He currently stars in the ABC comedy Modern Family as Phil Dunphy.

Ty Burrell (born August 22, 1967) is an American film and television actor. He currently stars in the ABC comedy Modern Family as Phil Dunphy.
Burrell was born in Grants Pass in Southern Oregon, and grew up in the Southern Oregon city of Ashland near the California border. After graduating from Hidden Valley High School in Grants Pass, he enrolled at Southern Oregon University in Ashland as a theatre major, where he graduated with a bachelors degree in theatre arts in 1993. Burrell was the commencement speaker at the school in 2008. While in college he worked as a bartender at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Burrell continued his education at Pennsylvania State University where he earned a masters in fine art.
Ty and his wife Holly resided in New York City until moving to Los Angeles in about 2009.
