Hoechlin was born in Riverside, California and began acting at the age of nine. His performance in Road to Perdition led to him getting the role of Martin Brewer in the hit show 7th Heaven in 2003. Recently, Hoechlin was nominated for a 2004 Teen Choice Award for Breakout Male Star.
He is 6' 1" (1.85 m) tall. Hoechlin is also a baseball player. He began playing at the age of seven and previously played infield for Arizona State University and the Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods League. Now he plays infield for UC Irvine Anteaters. He grounded out to the pitcher in the final at-bat at Alex Box Stadium, as UC Irvine lost to LSU 21-7 in the Anteaters' final game of the 2008 season.
