Tynecastle currently has a seating capacity of 17,800, which makes it the eighth largest in Scotland behind Murrayfield, Celtic Park, Hampden, Ibrox, Pittodrie, Rugby Park and Easter Road.
Hearts submitted a planning application in February 2008 to replace the ageing main stand, which was designed by Archibald Leitch. The proposals include a 10,000 seat stand and a hotel, office space, restaurants and bars. The capacity of the stadium would be increased to 23,000, which would make it the fifth largest stadium in Scotland.
