Types Definition

Types are a way of categorizing topics in Freebase as being a particular kind of thing. For example, Arnold Schwarzenegger is typed as a Person, Film Actor, Film Producer, Politician, Pro Athlete, and Celebrity, among others. When a type is added to a topic, it is a way of saying that the topic is an example, or instance, of that type of of thing. Users can create their own types and add them to topics, or they can add types that already exist. User-created types are usually associated with user-created domains, and are a way of associating a topic with a domain. For example, the Arnold Schwarzenegger topic has a user-created type Impersonated Celebrity that associates him with the American Comedy domain. For more information about user-created types, see the help topics under Creating Types and Properties.

Every type has a set of information fields, also known as properties (collectively these properties are known as the type schema). Registered users can enter or edit information in these fields. For more information about entering or editing property information, see the help topic Adding Topic Information .
