The University of California, Irvine is a public coeducational research university situated in Irvine, California. Founded in 1965, it is the second-youngest University of California campus and is widely recognized as UCI or UC Irvine. UC Irvine's name is originated from the Irvine Company, which donated 1,000 acres (4.0 km) for a single dollar and sold another 510 acres (2.1 km) to the University of California.
