In 1912, the University of Colorado established a downtown Denver campus to meet the needs of the city's rapidly expanding population. The downtown Denver campus started as extension courses from Boulder, officially named the University of Colorado's Department of Correspondence and Extension, and it became an official extension center in 1957.
