Founded in 1867 at the Illinois Industrial University (now the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), the School of Architecture was established under the Polytechnic Department under the proposal by Regent John Milton Gregory. Founded two years after the Architecture Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, it is the second oldest architecture school in the United States.
