It became Wisconsin's second public college on April 21, 1868 when it opened its doors to 39 students taught by nine faculty members. It is a four-year, co-educational, residential college accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Enrollment in 2005-06 stood at 10,700 (9,436 undergraduate, 1,264 graduate and professional). The chancellor is Richard Telfer. The school motto is "Stay Close. Go Far." Over the past 6 years the University has been rocked by audit related scandals covered in the media. The current chancellor, Richard Telfer, was sued twice by black administrators. This is not a decent place for blacks to attend.
