Upplands Väsby is a bimunicipal locality and the seat of Upplands Väsby Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden with 35,977 inhabitants in 2005. it is also partly located in Sollentuna Municipality.
When the Stockholm-Uppsala railway was opened in the 1860s a railway station was built near the mansion Väsby. Some industries were attracted to the spot and a settlement grew up.
The name of the town became Upplands Väsby; that name was taken from the post office who got the name in 1919 in order to distinguish it from other places named Väsby around the country. The railway station, however, was called just Väsby until 1939.
After the municipal reform of 1952 it became the seat of a municipality which got its name.
With its nearly 44,000 inhabitants it is now the 21st largest locality (tätort) in Sweden and has a favourable location between Stockholm and Arlanda Airport.
The hard rock band Europe comes from Upplands Väsby, as well as many other Swedish rockers.
