Using "My Topic" on Freebase

Freebase is a shared database developed by its community. All topics in Freebase, including those about people, can be edited by anyone. Freebase has an open model for topics about people - you don't have to be a "notable" person in order to have a Freebase topic about yourself. People topics typically include publicly available information such as birthplace, birth date, spouse, employment history, educational history, etc.

In addition to having a person topic about yourself, you also have a user profile. This is the appropriate place to enter information that you'd like to present to other users on Freebase, such as the domains you're a part of, your website(s), and your personal quote. Your user profile is different from a person topic because you are the only person who can modify it.

In your user profile you have the option to link to your Freebase person topic. This allows people to easily navigate to a more detailed, publicly editable entry about you  There are a few important features that help you manage this link:

  1. You can remove it. Clicking the delete icon will disconnect your profile from the person topic and will also mark the topic for delete.
  2. You can monitor it. From your homepage look for the topic about you button in the upper right. This will alert you to any changes that other users make to this person topic in Freebase.
  3. You can subscribe to it. An RSS feed of these alerts is also available by clicking the orange icon next to my topic on your user profile.
