The V/Line system carried a record 1,187,030 passengers in 2008 and continues to grow at a rate of over 20% on the major interurban lines servicing Ballarat, Geelong, Bendigo and Latrobe Valley.
On July 1, 1983 the Transport Act 1983 was passed and the State Transport Authority (STA) created.
