The Verbandsliga Brandenburg is the sixth tier of the German football league system and the highest league in the German state of Brandenburg. Until the introduction of the 3rd Liga in 2008, it was the fifth tier of the league system.
The Verbandsliga Brandenburg, sometimes referred to as Brandenburgliga, was established in 1990 from thirteen clubs as a highest league for the German state of Brandenburg, which incidentally was established after the league in October 1990, and the Brandenburg Football Association, FLB (German:Fussball-Landesverband Brandenburg). It compromised the area of the three Bezirksligas of Potsdam, Frankfurt/Oder and Cottbus. Each of those three Bezirke contributed four clubs to the new league, with one club coming from the 2nd Division. The Verbandsliga was established within the East German football league system and in cooperated in the league system of the united Germany after the end of its first season, in 1991.
