Veronica Prego filed a lawsuit accusing Kings County Hospital Center of negligence after she tested positive for HIV as a result of having punctured her finger on a contaminated syringe needle that she claimed an intern had left on a patient's bed. The intern denied the charge.
In March 1990, just before summations to the jury would have been held, she suddenly dropped her lawsuit, settling out-of-court for an undisclosed amount.
