In the original version, the gameplay is split into three modes namely the Story mode, Time Attack mode and Versus mode. The player has to go through the story mode in order to earn points to upgrade their car, should they decide to use a magnetic card to store the information. The maximum power a car can attain is 800 hp and players are able to set up their cars from the minimum horsepower of 600 hp which the set up is best for handling to 800 hp which makes the car “driftier” around corners.
