WBCQ is a shortwave radio station operating at Monticello, Maine, USA. The station is owned and operated by Allan Weiner, who also owns and operates WXME (AM) 780 and WBCQ-FM 94.7 MHz at the shortwave site. Since its inception, WBCQ has held a philosophy that the First Amendment guarantees equal protection and, as a trustee of the public airwaves, runs the station based on this. Programs are usually subsidized by varying groups of religious and political entities, but there are also programs playing various forms of music, novelty records, audiobooks, and self recorded material. The station also hosts numerous talk shows and is the home of many former pirate radio broadcasters.
