WBCQ is a shortwave radio station operating at Monticello, Maine, USA. The station also owns WCXH at 780 kHz 5,000 watts non directional day and 60 watts non directional at night, (formerly known as WREM 710 kHz). The station began operation in 1998 with just the WBCQ-1 transmitter on 7,415 kHz. All of the WBCQ short wave antennas are directional, the antenna used for 7,415 is beamed at 245 degrees. Since its inception, WBCQ has held a philosophy that the First Amendment guarantees free speech and, as a trustee of the public airwaves, runs the station based on this. Programs are usually paid for by varying groups of religious and political entities, but there are also programs playing various forms of music, novelty records, and self recorded material.
