In mid-1996, Nitro went on to draw better ratings than the WWF for 84 continuous weeks on the strength of its WCW vs. nWo storyline, which still ranks as one of the biggest rivalries in professional wrestling history and helped usher in the Monday Night Wars. The winning streak in the ratings for Nitro lasted until April 13, 1998. In 1997 for well over 16 weeks Nitro drew in more ratings than any other sports show on television.
