Prior to its current designation, the frequency was occupied by Cox Radio's WALR-FM, the R&B; format "Kiss 104.7" from the mid-1990s until 2000. The once local Athens signal of 50,000 watts at 104.7, which had been Top 40 WJSR/WAGQ since the 1970s, was upgraded to class C1 to serve Atlanta in the late 80s.
